- Southern Airlines to build maintenance center

CHINA Southern Airlines, China's largest carrier by fleet size, plans to build a large aircraft maintenance shop by 2009 in Shenzhen, the company announced over the weekend, following its recent announcement of the 55 Boeing 737 aircraft order early last week.
Covering a total area of 28,000 square meters near Shenzhen International Airport, the shop will be the largest aircraft maintenance shop in Shenzhen. It will cost the company about 93.76 million yuan (US$12.4 million), according to a company spokesman.
It is an urgent need for the airline to build a maintenance center in Shenzhen with the number of Southern Airlines planes increasing in the city, said Wu Guanglian, a senior engineer of Southern Airlines.
