- Eastern Air returns to black

CHINA Eastern Airlines Corp. said in a statement yesterday it swung to a first-half net profit.
Net profit for the six months ended June 30 totaled 58.2 million yuan (US$7.69 million), compared with a net loss of 1.34 billion yuan in the year-earlier period, when high fuel prices and increased domestic competition eroded the firm's earnings. The statement didn't give any reason for the turnaround.
