BEIJING, July 11 (Xinhua) -- Air China has signed a deal to buy23 Airbus A320 passenger planes, it said on Wednesday.
Air China said the contract was signed under the framework agreement reached by Airbus and the Chinese government back in October last year for the purchase of 150 jets.
The list price of the 23 A320s totaled 1.41 billion U.S. dollars, higher than the purchase price as Airbus is expected to offer a discount after negotiations.
According to the announcement, the 23 A320s will be delivered between January 2009 and December 2012.
It is estimated that the purchase will enhance the operating capacity of the airline by 5.88 percent.
As one of the three largest Chinese air carriers, along with China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines, Air China had a total of 176 by the end of 2005. In April, 2006, it also purchased 15 planes from Boeing at a cost of 982.8 million U.S. dollars.
China Southern Airlines also announced on Tuesday that it had agreed to purchase planes from Airbus and Boeing.
