THE country's five leading State banks saw a drop in the ratio of nonperforming loans (NPLs) to small firms in the first six months, the banking regulator said Wednesday.
The China Banking Regulatory Commission said the ratio fell 2.13 percentage points between January and June. It did not give the new level, but 26.37 percent of the five banks' loans to small firms were sour at the end of 2006, pointing to an end-June NPL ratio of 24.24 percent. The five banks are Bank of China, China Construction Bank Corp., Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Agricultural Bank of China and Bank of Communications.
