- State banks' NPL ratio is 9.22 percent

THE nonperforming loan (NPL) ratio at China's big four State banks was 9.22 percent at the end of 2006 and 2.81 percent at the country's 12 stockholding commercial banks, the China Banking Regulatory Commission said Friday.
NPLs at the big four lenders, namely Industrial & Commercial Bank of China, Bank of China, China Construction Bank and Agricultural Bank of China, totaled 1.05 trillion yuan as of the end of 2006, down 18.83 billion yuan (US$2.42 billion) from the start of the year, according to the banking regulator. NPLs at China's 12 stockholding commercial banks totaled 116.67 billion yuan at the end of 2006, falling 30.62 billion yuan from the start of that year.
