- Chongqing Brewery plans US$20m plant

CHONGQING Brewery Co., partly owned by Scottish & Newcastle Plc., said Friday it plans to spend 150 million yuan (US$19.81 million) to build a beer production line to meet rising demand.
The project, to be located in Chongqing, the largest city in southwestern China, has a design capacity for 200,000 kiloliters a year, the company said in a statement. The first phase of the project, with a 100,000-kiloliter annual capacity, is expected to start commercial production by the end of 2008, it said, adding the plan was aimed at meeting rising demand and boosting the firm's share of the local market.
