- SZ Sept. CPI hits new high

SHENZHEN'S comsumer price index (CPI) reached this year's new high to 5.6 percent in September compared with the same period last year, according to the city's statistics bureau.
Food price had the biggest jump, to 7.4 percent while price of household commodities went up 1.7 percent, the smallest jump.
End-Sept. urban jobless rate drops
THE country's registered urban unemployment rate fell to 4.0 percent at the end of September, compared with 4.1 percent at the end of June and at the end of September 2006, the labor ministry said yesterday.
Yin Chengji, spokesman for the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, said at a news conference that China had created 9.2 million jobs in the first nine months of the year, exceeding its whole-year target of 9 million jobs.
GZ, Ho Chi Minh City sign tourism pact
GUANGZHOU and Ho Chi Minh City signed a pact on tourism cooperation in the Vietnamese city Friday.
Under the agreement, the two cities will boost exchanges of information and ideas to promote domestic and international tourism. The two sides will regularly exchange delegations of tourism management agencies and businesses. The Guangzhou Tourism Department will help the HCM City Tourism Department in personnel training, particularly in training Chinese-language tourist guides.
