Date: 10-Jul-2007 Sources: (Shenzhen Daily)
TIANJIN Port's container volume rose 21 percent to a record in the first half as China's economic growth boosted demand for moving goods and raw materials.
The port, the largest in northern China, handled 3.36 million standard 20-foot boxes in the six months ended June 30, the local port authority said on its Web site yesterday. Cargo volume rose 23 percent to a record 157.3 million tons. Ports in Tianjin and other cities are handling more cargo as exports of clothes, toys and other goods increase. Tianjin Port plans to more than double its cargo volume to 400 million tons by 2020, including up to 20 million containers.
