  • H-P introduces energy efficient computer
    Date: 16-Apr-2007 Sources: (Shenzhen Daily)

HEWLETT-PACKARD (H-P) Co. on Friday unveiled a new energy efficient desktop computer, the H-P Compaq dx2020, which it's begun selling to businesses in China.

The computer uses low- power-consuming chips from Taiwan-based Via Technologies Inc. The chips are certified by China's energy rating agency, H-P said in a statement.

The new H-P (HPQ) computer signals the growing importance of efficient energy to makers of business and consumer technology, especially in China, which is struggling with criticism that its surging economic expansion is allowing unchecked damage to the environment.

Just recently, Chinese computer manufacturer Lenovo Group Ltd. topped a list of the world's most environmentally-friendly companies, compiled by the environmental lobby group Greenpeace.

One of the best attributes of the new computer from H-P, according to the company, is that it minimizes power costs, and a business' potential environmental impact.

The deal between Via and H-P marks the first major computer manufacturer to use the Via chips, the representative added.

'The H-P Compaq dx2020 represents a great opportunity for many more Chinese businesses of all sizes to upgrade their operations, while minimizing their power costs and environmental impact,'Via President Wenchi Chen said in a statement.
