PC maker Gateway Inc will unveil a partnership with China's biggest IT product distributor today, the US firm said yesterday.
'Digital China has a strong distribution network and a national reach, which is important for us to approach individual computer buyers,' said Bob Davidson, senior vice-president of retail at Gateway, yesterday.
Gateway has grown into the third-largest PC maker in the US mainly due to its low-cost direct sales model.
China is the world's second-biggest PC market. Gateway expects to open more than 1,000 retail outlets in the country with Digital China before 2008. In the past two months, the two companies have opened 140 outlets as part of their partnership agreement.
The computer maker has also sealed a deal with US consumer electronics chain Best Buy Co to sell its products through the retailer's stores in China. 'We will introduce models targeted at the high-end segment, as there is a niche for high-quality and high-technology products in China,' said Ed Coleman, Gateway's chief executive officer.
