- Consumer confidence on the rise in Q2

THE country's consumer confidence index rose to 96.8 points in the second quarter from 95.8 in the first three months, the National Bureau of Statistics said yesterday.
The index stood at 96.2 points in the fourth quarter of 2006 and 94.7 points in the third quarter, the statistics agency said on its Web site.
The index distils consumers' attitudes towards current and future macroeconomic performance, their future earnings and plans for purchases of major durable goods into a composite figure.
The sub-index representing consumers' satisfaction with current economic performance stood at 93.0 points in the second quarter, up from 91.9 points in the first quarter, the agency said.
Consumers' confidence of the economic outlook for the next few months stood at 99.3 points, up from 98.4 points three months ago, it said.
