The 2011 Universiade, to be held in Shenzhen, is expected to enrich the city's coffers by about 1.5 billion yuan (US$195 million), the municipal government told some 300 experts and enterprises from sports industry at a forum yesterday.
The forum was held at the Wuzhou Guest House, aiming to further explore potential marketing value for the Universiade four years ahead.
Vice Mayor Liang Daoxing said it's the first time in Universiade's history with such a deliberated marketing strategy. He said it's an opportunity for domestic and overseas enterprises to share profits and substantial benefits that the game is likely to bring in.
Yue Zheng, dean of the Shenzhen Academy of Social Sciences, unveiled an official marketing blueprint to the public at the forum.
Some 35 items from the blueprint covered seven fields including broadcasting, sponsorship, advertisement, related events, ticket and souvenir sales.
Yue said the 13,000 overseas athletes to participant into the event and 25 million domestic university students are the main target in the strategy.
Yue expected some 600,000 to 800,000 tickets will be sold during the Universiade. Ticket price for opening and closing ceremonies will ranged between US$10 to US$50, while those for general competition events will price at US$1 to US$10.
He said large discount will be provided to students and sponsors.
To prepare for the 2011 Universiade, the municipal government is scheduled to upgrade the city's telecommunication and transportation systems, environment, public security and public service standard.
Liang said more than 180 billion yuan will be spent on the four-year upgrade.
'The government had allocated US$600 million for stadiums' construction and renovation. Thirty-two stadiums were finished and another 22 are expected to finished before 2010,' he said.
