- Siemens: China the top priority market
Date: 19-Sep-2007 Sources: (People's Daily)
Siemens China said China was the most important market for multinationals and their success relied on how local their business and treatment would be.
On the afternoon of July 13, 2007, Beijing Multinational Leaders Summit themed as 'New Strategies of Developing Multinational Enterprises under the New Situation' was held in Beijing. About 300 representatives from some 30 multinational companies, such as Agilent China and Microsoft China, and All-China Federation of Industries & Commerce, Beijing Investment Promotion Bureau, etc, were present.
Dr. Richard Hausmann, president and CEO of Siemens China made a keynote speech -'New Trends and new Strategies for MNCs in China'. He gave three reasons to explain why China is a top priority market for MNCs: China is the third largest electrical and fastest growing E/E market worldwide, has formed a value chain of R&D, manufacturing and procurement and enjoys a major source for highly qualified talent.
He said to be innovative, get local, become good corporate citizens, and have a stronger voice as European Chamber are the four key factors to MNCs' success in China. He said Siemens China is developing their R & D group and have already built up a talented team with 99% of its staff from China. They have been making efforts in charity and relief fields, he added.
Meanwhile, he proposed further improvement to make China even more attractive for MNCs. First, he claimed that as a multinational company in China, they regard China as their home and deem themselves as Chinese companies. Therefore, they do not ask for privileges, but for an equal level playing field. Secondly, they expect more transparency and stability in government policies. Thirdly, implementation in IPR protection needs to be pressed. Better services like housing, schooling of their kids, etc, are also attractions.
The summit, co-sponsored by the People's Government of Chaoyang District of Beijing Municipal Government and China Business News, is one of the most important events of the 8th Beijing CBD International Business Festival. The festival, lasting from Sep.12th to 15th, covering forums, exhibitions, and business and cultural activities, is designed to highlight its commitment to the theme 'Olympics and Environment, Harmony and Development'.
