ABB, the Swiss power and automation group, has said it will provide Beijing's No. 4 subway line with 600 low voltage switchgear equipment units, worth 38 million yuan (4.87 million U.S. dollars)

The equipment will be delivered in two batches in September and November this year.

Beijing Subway Co. purchased 300 low voltage switchgear units from ABB Xiamen Low Voltage Equipment Co. Ltd. in 1996, to upgrade the capital city's No. 1 and 2 subway lines.

Construction of the 28.65-kilometer-long No. 4 subway line, which runs through Fengtai, Xuanwu, Xicheng and Haidian districts of Beijing, started in 2004 and is expected to be completed in 2009. The investment is estimated at 15.3 billion yuan.

The Zurich-based ABB Group has 25 solely-owned or joint venture companies in China, employing 8,500 people. In 2005, the company's China sales reached 2.4 billion U.S. dollars.
