- Wind, hydro power capacity jump sharply

THE country's wind and hydro power generation capacity rose sharply in 2006, in line with the government's plan to increase production of renewable energy, the country's top economic agency said Friday.
Wind power is the most commercially valuable renewable energy, the National Development and Reform Commission said on its Web site. About 80 wind farms were completed in China by the end of last year, with total installed capacity of 2,300 megawatts, up more than 80 percent from 2005, it said. Newly installed hydropower capacity last year was estimated at 10,000 megawatts and 90,000 megawatts are still under construction.
