SHENZHEN'S second International Underwear Fair will open in mid April at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center.
Organized by the Shenzhen Textile Association and Shengshibowen Exhibition Company, the fair will showcase branded underwear from home and abroad. More than 30 businesses have so far booked booths. Professional buyers, including a Spanish underwear trade company and a textile association in Leon, France, have expressed interest in attending.
The show will feature bras, underpants, children's underwear and pajamas.
China's underwear industry is mainly concentrated in the Pearl River Delta and Yangtze River Delta. Gongming in Shenzhen, Yanbu in Nanhai, and Chaoyang in Shantou are the three main production centers in Guangdong.
The industry's output value in Shenzhen reached 8 billion yuan (US$1.03 billion) in 2006, accounting for one-ninth of the nation's underwear industry output, said Zhang Jingsheng, secretary general of the Shenzhen Textile Association. While more than 10 world-famous underwear firms have set up factories in Shenzhen, some local brands have also become household names.
A 10,000-square-meter underwear industrial estate will be set up in Gongming, Bao'an District by the end of 2007, according to Zhang.
The fair has reached agreements with about a dozen department stores, including Wangfujing and Sogo, to set up a discussion area for the participants.
The organizers are expanding the fair from last year's 5,000 square meters to 14,000 square meters. Modeling shows of new fashion trends in China will be among the fair's highlights.
The fair, scheduled for April 13 and 15, will be open to both underwear industry professionals and the public.
