- Madagascar to hold trade show in China

Madagascan businessmen and traders have decided to organize a trade show in China later this year with an aim to promote export to one of the biggest markets in the world.
Madagascar Trade Show (MTS) would take place on Oct. 11 to 12 in Guangzhou, capital of the southern Guangdong Province, MTS President Ratsimbazafy Rija announced here on Thursday.
Over 60 companies of the Indian Ocean island country would participate at the show, to be jointly sponsored by Madagascan Ministry of Economy, Plan and Private Sector, Madagascar's Chamber and Commerce Federation and Malagasy-Chinese Business Chamber, Rija briefed some 400 businessmen and traders at a meeting here.
One of the objectives of the show was to facilitate meetings with Chinese operators and to search for new business opportunities of cooperation between Madagascan business community and their Chinese counterparts.
Madagascan businessmen and traders intended to take full advantages of Chinese government duty-free policy for over 400 products and commodities to be imported from African countries.
Two-way trade between China and Madagascar increased to 246 million U.S. dollars in 2006 and went up by 22 percent to 150 million dollars in the first four months of this year compared with that in the same period in 2006.
