- More tolling trade exports to be banned
Date: 28-Dec-2007 Sources: (Shenzhen Daily)
THE country would ban exports of a range of products manufactured through tolling contracts, in which firms imported raw materials in order to re-export finished products duty-free, government sources said on Monday.
Steel plates and some other steel products, as well as some petrochemical products, were among the 600 items that were no longer permitted under the tolling system, they said. The list is expected to be issued in the next few days.
China had encouraged tolling as part of its export-led growth policy, but as its trade surplus grows, it is moving to limit export-oriented industries that are energy intensive, polluting or contribute to trade friction.
