- HK exports up 11.4 pct in May

Hong Kong's volume of total exports rose by 11.4 percent in May comparing with May 2006, according to the statistics announced Thursday by Hong Kong Census and Statistics Department.
The re-export volume in May grew by 13.5 percent over that of last year, whereas that of domestic exports fell by 20.7 percent. Taken together, the volume of exports in May increased by 11.4 percent while the imports of goods increased by 11.5 percent over the same month 2006.
Comparing the first five months of 2007 with the same period in 2006, the volume of Hong Kong's re-exports rose by 11.7 percent, whereas that of domestic exports dropped significantly, by 27.8 percent. Taken together, the volume of total exports of goods grew by 9.3 percent. Concurrently, the volume of imports of goods increased by 10.2 percent, said the Census and Statistics Department.
