THE country's steel products exports may hit a record high of 7.16 million metric tons in April, far exceeding imports of 1.63 million tons, industry Web site Mysteel.com said yesterday, citing preliminary data provided by the customs department.
The strong growth of exports would be in line with estimates by analysts, who believe it will take a few months before government controlling measures released last month will take effect. The government removed value-added tax rebates for exports of 83 steel products and cut the rebates for the rest to 5 percent from 8 percent from April 15.
