- BP seeks renewable energy projects

BP Plc. is seeking opportunities for renewable energy projects such as biomass or wind power on Chongming Island in Shanghai, an area targeted by the government for sustainable development projects, an executive at BP's China unit said.
Renewable energy will see significant growth in China in the next five years, reflecting rising concerns about the environment among China's increasingly affluent population, Husayn Anwar, vice president of BP China, said yesterday. 'The emerging middle class is very concerned about the environment and they are putting pressure on the government and industry, demanding the quality of environment,'he said.
Daimler venture begins building vehicle plant
DAIMLER AG's joint venture in China's southeastern Fujian Province began building a facility Tuesday to make multi-purpose vehicles, paving the way for the automaker's expansion in China's fast-growing premium commercial vehicle market.
The venture, Fujian Daimler Chrysler Automotive Co., will have a production capacity of 40,000 vehicles a year, with the first Mercedes-Benz van expected to come off the production line in 2009, DaimlerChrysler (China) Ltd. said in a statement Tuesday.
