- Hong Kongers to buy 10,000 Shenzhen flats
Date: 1-Nov-2007 Sources: (Shenzhen Daily)
SHENZHEN is still the first choice for Hong Kong residents planning to purchase a home on the mainland, according to a recent report by Land Power International Property Consultants (China) Ltd.
The report was quoted by the Southern Metropolis Daily as saying Tuesday that the number of Shenzhen units bought by Hong Kongers totaled 7,500 to 7,700 in the first three quarters of this year and is expected to reach 10,100 to 10,500 for the whole year. The figure will be 42 percent of the total number on the mainland purchased by Hong Kong homebuyers.
According to Jiang Shurong, general manager of the company, Hong Kong buyers have been attracted by Shenzhen's geographic proximity, relatively cheaper housing prices and favorable policies. The Shenzhen government has announced new policies Sept. 13 to allow Hong Kong families to purchase more than two houses in the city, up from the previous limit of one.
Most of the buyers preferred places with convenient transportation, such as Futian and Luohu districts. However, more Hong Kongers have chosen Nanshan District since the opening of the Western Corridor in July 1, which links Yuen Long in Hong Kong with Shekou in Shenzhen, the report said. Most buyers favor apartments of 50 to 70 square meters in size as they already have first home in Hong Kong.
