- Iron ore imports, steel exports up

CHINA imported 161.15 million tons of iron ore in the first five months of the year, up 21.4 percent from a year earlier, official customs figures showed yesterday.
Imports in May were 27.62 million tons, up 12.4 percent from a year ago, but lower than record monthly imports of 35.85 million tons in January, according to official customs figures. China's steel product exports in May dropped to 6.17 million tons from April's record 7.16A million tons. Exports of steel products in the January to May period surged 116.7 percent year on year to 27.44 million tons, customs said on its Web site.
