CHINA will cut tariffs on imports from Pakistan and eliminate tariffs on certain imports from underdeveloped African countries from July 1, the Ministry of Finance said yesterday.
Under the terms of a free-trade agreement between China and Pakistan signed in November, China will reduce tariffs by an average of 11 percent on 3,975 Pakistani goods from July 1, the ministry said in a statement. That reduction is the first phase of two tariff cuts under the free-trade agreement, and will lower the average tariff on Pakistani imports to 8 percent. Also from July 1, China will grant tariff-free status to 256 goods imported from 26 underdeveloped African countries.
