THE Shenzhen bureau of China's quarantine administration said last week that it has found microscopic worms in wooden packaging from the United States.
The pine wood worms, or nematodes, were found in 13 sets of packaging and the packaging was produced by six manufacturers with official U.S. certificates, the Shenzhen bureau of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said.
The city's quality supervision officials also discovered harmful living organisms in a further 10 batches of wooden packaging from the United States, out of 70 batches sampled between July 14 and Aug. 23, the administration said.
The proportion of substandard wooden packaging from the United States - 15.38 percent of the sample - was much higher than that for the European Union, South Korea, Japan or Canada, the administration said.
