- China working all out to ensure quality of goods: minister

The Chinese government has always attached great importance to guaranteeing the quality of Chinese exports and unprecedented progress has been made in this regard, Commerce Minister Bo Xilai has said recently.
Over the past 29 years, Chinese exports have grown at an average rate of 17 percent a year, which speaks volumes for the fact that the quality of Chinese exports and service has been recognized by China's trading partners and customers overseas, Bo said in Manila.
The Chinese commerce minister was in the Philippine capital for the economy and trade ministers' meetings of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) plus China and ASEAN plus China, Japan and South Korea on Aug. 25-26.
Statistics show that the acceptance rate of the Chinese food exported to the United States, the European Union (EU) and Japan in the past three and a half years exceeded 99 percent, he said.
The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare in Japan, China's biggest food importer, said in July that 99.42 percent of the imported food from China in 2006 met safety standards, which is the highest acceptance rate,followed by 99.38 percent for food from the EU and 98.69 percent for the United States.
No country in the world can guarantee their products to be 100 percent safe, the Chinese minister said. Nevertheless, China will spare no efforts to aim for a 100-percent acceptance rate for its products, because if one in 100 or even in 1,000 of Chinese products has quality problems, it will inflict harm and loss on customers, he said.
China will take any case over product quality seriously and deal with it in accordance with laws, he added.
During the meetings, participants said their confidence in Chinese goods remained unchanged and they would not take restrictive measures against imports of Chinese goods.
Philippine Secretary of Trade and Industry Peter Favila said the Philippines has taken note of the effective measures China has adopted to ensure the quality of its products and it will not lose confidence in Chinese goods.
The economic and trade ties with China will by no means be affected, Favila added.
