- Country Garden buys prime sites

PROPERTY developer Country Garden Holdings Co. Ltd. said it bought prime sites in Chongqing and in the provinces of Guangdong, Hubei and Anhui for a total of 1.49 billion yuan (US$197 million).
The company said in a statement late Monday it had bought the prime sites in Chongqing Municipality, in Guangdong's Zhaoqing and Shaoguan, Hubei's Xianning and Suizhou, and Anhui's Hexian, adding 10 million squares meters of gross floor area to its land bank. Country Garden, which had about 54 million square meters as of Aug. 15, on Monday posted first-half profit of 1.42 billion yuan, a 164.3 percent rise thanks to rising properties price and a significant increase in property sales.
