SHENZHEN'S leading news Web site, www.sznews.com, has been selected as one of China's nine most influential news Web sites in the year 2006, the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported yesterday.
The selection was made by authoritative news institutes including newspaper and periodical centers under the State Press and Publication Administration, and the public opinion research institute of People's University. The result was announced Sunday in Nanning, capital city of Southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
The selection was based on the Web sites' development, influence and achievements as well as people's votes and experts' opinions. The other eight most influential news Web sites include www.xinhuanet.com, www.people. com.cn, www.
ynet.com, www.eastday.com, www.rednet.com.cn, www.
zjol.com.cn, www.scol.com.cn and www.cnnb.com.cn.
China has witnessed a rapid development of news Web sites in recent years. Since it was set up more than four years ago, www.sznews.com has become an authoritative center for Shenzhen news and information. The Web site's BBS and online survey have made it a platform for the government to get to know public opinions, and for residents to learn about government policies and important events.
The Web site has also been selected as one of the country's excellent cultural Web sites. It is regularly among the best city news Web sites in monthly rankings in terms of news reporting last year. More than 30 stories have received city or provincial news awards in 2006.
Guan Fei, editor-in-chief of www.sznews.com, made a keynote speech on the development of new media and the interaction between newspapers and Web sites at a forum held Sunday in Nanning.
