  • Individual consumers spend over 270 billion yuan on internet
    Date: 18-Jan-2007 Sources: (People's Daily)

In China's 2007 Internet Survey Report, recently released by the Internet Society of China, it is predicted that blog and video sharing markets will be valued at more than 100 million yuan by the end of this year. More and more people are turning to the internet to provide them with services and entertainment, and the scale of internet advertising is expanding rapidly.

The report found individual users spent a combined total of 276.746 billion yuan on internet services, up 47 percent from 187.653 billion yuan in 2005. Monthly spending has increased from approximately 150 yuan to approximately 170 yuan.

This market expansion is largely attributable to an increase in the number of the internet users. China's netizens are maturing, and the market is segmenting to cater to different wants. The report also found that netizens generally spend their money surfing, shopping and playing games on the computer, with online gaming websites the main beneficiaries of their spending.
