Chinese investors have begun surveying for a 2.8 billion US dollars coal-fired power project in Indonesia's South Sumatra province, the governor has said.
Governor Syahrial Oesman was quoted Friday by major national newspaper The Jakarta Post as saying Chinese investors were surveying land at Bangko Tengah before building four coal-fired power generating plants, each with a capacity of 600 megawatts.
The surveys also included plans for the construction of roads to transport heavy machinery, Syahrial said.
Two of the four power plants would be built under a joint venture agreement between state coal mining company PT Tambang Batubara Bukit Asam, Chine Huadian Group Corporation and PT IndikaInti Energi, he said.
The work follows up an agreement reached at the Indonesia-China Investment Forum last month.
No information is available about the investors in the two other plants.
