- Large copper, aluminum output expected

THE country expects to continue recording double-digit growth in its copper and aluminum output this year, according to a forecast by the nation's top economic planning body yesterday.
Copper production is estimated to jump 16.6 percent to 2.95 million metric tons in 2006, while aluminum output is to expected to soar 24.2 percent to 9.2 million tons, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) said on its Web site. The country produced 2.53 million tons of copper and 7.41 million tons of aluminum in 2005, up 23 percent and 19 percent, respectively.
