- Stainless steel output up 68 percent

THE country's stainless steel output in 2006 rose nearly 68 percent to 5.3 million tons and is expected to increase another 8 percent this year, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) said.
The NDRC said prices should rise gradually in 2007 due mainly to technological upgrades and consolidation. The commission recently said China had become the world's largest producer of stainless steel with imports down 20 percent last year while exports rose 75 percent as more domestic production was put into operation.
