- Chinalco to double processing capacity

ALUMINUM Corp. of China, or Chinalco, plans to expand its alumina refining capacity to 13 million tons a year by 2010, while investing up to US$2 billion to produce more higher-value aluminum products, a senior executive said Thursday.
'We plan to inject 10 billion to 15 billion yuan (US$1.35 billion-US$2.02 billion) to expand our aluminum processing capacity,'said Li Dongguang, director of marketing and trade at Chinalco, adding that processing capacity would nearly double to 2 million tons by 2010. Chinalco, parent of listed Aluminum Corp. of China Ltd. plans to expand primary aluminum smelting capacity to 5 million tons by 2010, he said.
