Date: 5-Feb-2007 Sources: (Shenzhen Daily)
CHINA'S Chery Automobile Co., the country's biggest domestic automaker, is in talks with Italian peer Fiat on expanding ties following an engine deal last year, the China Daily newspaper reported Thursday.
Among the options would be a joint venture in China to assemble Fiat cars, it said on its Web site, citing an industry source familiar with the situation. 'Chery will register a new subsidiary to team up with Fiat in an attempt to remain an independent brand,'the source was quoted as saying.
