DOMESTIC carmakers saw car sales rise 16 percent last month as they cut prices to win customers in the world's second-largest vehicle market.
Chinese drivers bought 545,800 passenger cars, multipurpose vehicles and sport-utility vehicles in April, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers said in a statement yesterday. It didn't give a year-earlier figure. Passenger car sales rose 21 percent in the first four months of the year to 2.08 million. The nation's overall vehicle sales may reach 8.5 million this year, compared with 7.22 million in 2006, according to the automakers' association.
