  • Fiat rethinks venture with Nanjing Auto

    FIAT SpA is considering scrapping its joint venture with Nanjing Automobile Corp. in favor of an alliance with another local carmaker, according to Fiat chief executive Sergio Marchionne, the Financial Times reported on its Web site Thursday.

    Marchionne said Nanjing Auto had been distracted by its efforts to relaunch the MG brand, which is due to begin production at MG Rover's former plant in the U.K. next week, according to the report. The Italian carmaker is now considering expanding one of its existing partnerships with Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp. or Chery Automobile Co., Marchionne was cited as saying.
