- Yangtze Power profit up 8 percent

CHINA Yangtze Power Co., the listing vehicle of the Three Gorges Dam project, said its 2006 net profit rose 8 percent on improved control of operating costs.
Its net profit for the 12 months ended Dec. 31, 2006, was 3.62 billion yuan (US$468.31 million), up from 3.34 billion yuan in 2005, the company said in a statement yesterday. Core revenue in 2006 fell 5 percent to 6.92 billion yuan from 7.26 billion yuan in 2005. Yangtze Power is the Shanghai-listed unit of China Three Gorges Project Corp., which is in charge of the world's largest hydropower project.
