A national Taiwan-funded Enterprises Association will be founded on April 16 in Beijing, a mainland official said here on Wednesday.
Yang Yi, spokesman with the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said the association would be a non-profit organization initiated by Taiwan business people and based on local associations of Taiwan-funded firms.
It would operate and develop independently to provide services for its member companies, protect their legal rights, and promote the cross-Strait economic exchanges and cooperation, Yang said.
The Taiwan Affairs Office is responsible for guiding and supervising the operation of the association, which would serve as a bridge between Taiwan-funded companies and the central government, he said.
The mainland had approved 68,000 ventures in which Taiwan business people had invested 41.7 billion U.S. dollars by the end of 2005.
