- Anhui Conch profit almost quadruples

ANHUI Conch Cement Co., China's biggest maker of the construction material, said Friday 2006 profit almost quadrupled after the company increased prices to meet demand in the world's fastest-growing major economy.
Net income surged to 1.48 billion yuan (US$191 million), or 1.18 yuan a share, from 385.8 million yuan, or 0.31 yuan, a year earlier, the Wuhu, Anhui Province-based company said in a statement. Sales rose 41 percent to 15.2 billion yuan from 10.8 billion yuan.
