- CNPC mulls LNG terminal in Guangxi
Date: 1-Aug-2007 Sources: (Shenzhen Daily)
CHINA National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC), the country's largest oil and gas producer, is considering to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in southern Guangxi region, Xinhua reported Monday.
An official with PetroChina, CNPC's listed arm, was quoted as saying the proposed LNG project would be located in Qingzhou, where a 200,000-barrel-per-day refinery is under construction by the listed unit.
LNG supplies could come from Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Middle East and Africa, Xinhua quoted Wu Enlai, general manager of PetroChina's Guangxi subsidiary, as saying.
Major Chinese oil companies had laid out ambitious plans to build dozens of LNG receiving facilities along the coastal regions, but a majority of them were stalled as the firms had not secured resources due to reluctance to pay higher prices.
