BEIJING, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Tian Congming, president of China's Xinhua News Agency, met here Thursday with Tarun Basu, director and chief editor of the Indo-Asian News Service (IANS), vowing to strengthen future cooperation.
Tian said Xinhua has maintained a friendly relationship of cooperation with the Indian media.
Xinhua established a cooperative agreement with IANS in 2006, which serves as a solid foundation for future cooperation.
Basu displayed a survey conducted by IANS on the potential market for Chinese information in India, adding that IANS would like to enhance cooperation with Xinhua regarding economic data.
In response, Tian said it was possible for Xinhua and IANS to work together in that area for the benefit of both sides.
As for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, Tian said Xinhua was the news agency of the host country officially authorized by the International Olympic Committee, and it would also serve as the official photography team.
Xinhua would do its best to accommodate its foreign peers, including IANS, Tian said.
Xinhua's vice president, Zhou Xisheng, also attended the meeting.
