TWENTY-FIVE Indonesian port security officials began a training course held by China's Ministry of Communications in Shenzhen yesterday.
The 10-day course, half of which is to be held in Shenzhen and half in Shanghai, is the first training program the ministry has ever held for Indonesian port security officials.
The trainees, all security officials holding medium or higher positions at Indonesian ports, are to sit classroom lessons and visit ports at Yantian, Shekou and Shanghai's Yangshan to learn from China's practices in port security.
The program was launched after a series of agreements were reached between the Chinese and the Indonesian governments on marine cooperation over the past two years.
China and Indonesia signed an MOU on marine cooperation on April 25, 2005. In August 2006, Chinese Minister of Communications Li Shenglin and his Indonesian counterpart reached an agreement on joint training and technology exchanges.
