- Govt. says economy grows 10.5%

CHINA'S economy, the world's fourth largest, grew 10.5 percent in 2006 from a year earlier, the National Development and Reform Commission said.
Gross domestic product topped 20 trillion yuan (US$2.6 trillion) last year, the nation's top planning body said Friday on its Web site, citing initial estimates. The gain is a slowing from a 10.7 percent expansion in the first three quarters of last year. The government has scheduled the release of the figures for Jan. 25.
