Rescuers took 140 people off a passenger boat that stranded on Thursday in the Yangtze River off Chongqing Municipality of southwestern China.

Sources with the China Maritime Search and Rescue Center said the 'Silvery Shark', of Fengdu Silvery Shark Shipping Service Company, ran aground about 20 meters from the bank at Dabeijiao at 4:40 a.m..

The 53-meter-long vessel was en route from Gaozhen township to Chongqing with 115 passengers and 25 crew on board.

Rescue boats 'Patrol 31137' and 'Navigation 1266' arrived at the site about one hour later to ease resulting congestion on the river.

It took only 25 minutes for the 'Victory', which arrived at 5:50 a.m., to rescue all the stranded.

The passengers have been put aboard the 'Hairui Four' to continue their journey.
