SHENZHEN'S GDP exceeded 500 billion yuan (US$64 billion) for the first time to reach 568.4 billion yuan in 2006, marking a 15-percent rise on the previous year, and ranking the city fourth on the mainland.
Preliminary calculations by the Shenzhen Municipal Statistics Bureau revealed Tuesday that the revenue growth of retail sales in the city last year surpassed the GDP growth for the first time in the past 10 years.
The retail sales revenue last year reached 167.1 billion yuan in Shenzhen, growing 16.2 percent over the previous year.
The import and export trade volume reached US$237.4 billion in 2006, growing 29.9 percent over the previous year. The export trade volume reached US$136.1 billion, which grew 34.1 percent over the previous year and has ranked top among mainland cities for 14 consecutive years.
There has been a fast growth in exports by private companies of electronics, high-tech and mechanical products.
A total of 23.17 million tourists stayed overnight in Shenzhen last year, of whom 7.12 million were from overseas.
In 2006, Shenzhen's fixed assets investment reached 127.2 billion yuan, growing 7.7 percent over last year. A survey of 600 families showed that Shenzhen residents had an average annual disposable income of 22,567 yuan last year, an increase of 5 percent compared with 2005.
