An increasing number of Shenzhen residents are choosing to share their cars to travel home for the upcoming Spring Festival, in response to high air prices and usually over-crowded public transport, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported Friday.
People who carpool* are usually from Hunan, Hubei, Jiangxi and other adjacent* provinces, the newspaper said.
A man who gave only his surname He said he has decided to drive home this year. He goes back to Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, northeast of Guangdong, for the Spring Festival every year and used to take public transport. 'But I have had enough of the trouble of using public transport. Buying a train ticket during the period is just a nightmare*, and the cost of air travel has also increased a lot. So I will drive home this year,'He said.
He has a nine-seat vehicle and posted a carpooling message on a popular Web site www.oeeee.com, looking for people to join him. 'This is a perfect idea. For me, I'd love to have some company for the near 10-hour journey; for others it means they don't have to waste energy and time in purchasing a train ticket,'he said, adding that carpooling will also reduce his traveling expenses.
He said the drive back to Nanchang would cost about 350 yuan (US$45) per person, slightly more than a train ticket, but cheaper than traveling on a long-distance bus. He said he had received a lot of feedback* after posting the message and four people had confirmed they would join him.
