Date: 30-Jan-2007 Sources: (People's Daily)
China's duty-free sector has made a profit of US$460 million in 2006, up 21 percent from the same period of last year. It is growing far faster than the average rate of 4 percent across the world, and is in fact the fastest growing in the world, it was announced at China's National Duty-free Conference on January 26.
China duty-free group was founded in Hong Kong SAR in 2006, which was China's first duty-free market terminal. Now, China has 150 duty-free shops.
Meanwhile, the dominance of foreign brands in China's market is being challenged, with sales of domestic products constantly increasing. The licensed products for the 2008 Olympics are the best-selling of these products.
The CEO of China Duty-Free Group said that China is trying to develop a marketing strategy for domestic brands and expand the tax return service on them, which will cover all Olympic products.
