- Huaneng to build two coal-fired plants

HUANENG Power International Inc., the largest listed domestic power producer by capacity, said Thursday it has received regulatory approval to build two 600-megawatt coal-fired plants as part of an expansion project at its 60 percent-owned plant in Henan Province.
The Hong Kong and Shanghai-listed company said the National Development and Reform Commission recently approved the construction of the two plants. The plants, which will require total investment of 4.5 billion yuan (US$591 million), will be part of the Henan Huaneng Qinbei Power Plant, the company said. About 20 percent of the investment will be funded by Huaneng Power, while another 40 percent will be paid by two investment corporations owned by the State. The remainder will be funded by bank loans.
