TAIWANESE have so far set up a total of 4,398 businesses with a investment of US$5.1 billion in Shenzhen, according to a press release at the 17th anniversary of the founding of the Shenzhen Association of Taiwan Enterprises on Saturday.
Shenzhen was one of the earliest areas on the mainland opened to Taiwan investment. Launched in 1990, the association has developed from more than 60 businesses to the current 2,000. The total exports generated by Taiwan enterprises in Shenzhen hit more than US$40 billion last year. Over recent years, Taiwan investments have tended to focus on high-tech projects.
