- Sinopec gas field reserves double
Date: 8-Mar-2007 Sources: (Shenzhen Daily)
SINOPEC Corp. has revised proven gas reserves at its massive Puguang field up to 500 billion cubic meters, enough to meet over eight years of demand, Xinhua said Tuesday.
The company will invest 40 billion yuan (US$5.17 billion) in exploring and developing the field and expects it to produce 12 billion cubic meters a year by 2008, Xinhua quoted the company saying.
Sinopec last year put proven recoverable reserves in the field, situated in southwestern Sichuan Province, at 250 billion cubic meters.
The field, which now covers 86 square kilometers and is one of only five nationwide with more than 200 billion cubic meters of gas, is expected to start production in May this year.
The company also plans a pipeline to take the gas to the eastern coastal financial hub of Shanghai, Xinhua said.
Sinopec had previously said gas from the field would go to the coastal province of Shandong.
The government has been pushing domestic upstream efforts because officials want to increase use of clean-burning natural gas but are reluctant to pay rising international prices.
